Famous Lynne's Chocolate Pie

Chocolate Pie

1 cup sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
1 ½ tbsp flour (heaping)
3 eggs yolks (save egg whites for preparing meringue)
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup water
½ stick margarine (melted)
1 cup evaporated milk
1 baked pie shells
pinch of salt
Prepared Meringue

Combine sugar, flour, and cocoa in a pot and mix. Add ½ of the milk a little at the time stirring into the mixture. Add ½ of the water a little at the time stirring into the mixture. In a bowl beat the egg yolks with the rest of the milk and water, salt, and melted margarine. Add this egg mixture to the mixture in the pot, stirring to mix. Cook on medium heat stirring constantly until thick. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour into baked pie shell.

Meringue
3 egg whites
½ tsp vanilla
¼ tsp cream of tartar
6 tbsp sugar

Beat egg whites in large bowl until soft peaks form. Add the vanilla and cream of tartar, beat to mix. Slowly add about ¼ of the sugar at a time, beating after each addition until all sugar is used and stiff peaks form. Spread over pie. Be sure to spread to the edge of the pie crust. Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes.
